In a terrible incident, an elephant in Thailand tore the handler in two after a high temperature might make him “go crazy”.
According to The Independent, the police informed that the incident occurred in a rubber plantation in Phang Nga Province, South Thailand last week. They believe that elephants have become frustrated because they have to transport rubber wood in hot weather.
The male elephant, named Pom Pam, stabbed Supachai who was 32 years old with ivory several times, tore his body in two. Preliminary investigations determine that Mr. Wongaed brought the elephant to transport wood on the plantation that morning. However, due to the hot heat, the 20 -year -old tusker became “crazy” and attacked mahout.
After the incident, animal staff found Mr Wongaed’s body in a puddle of blood, Fox News reported. Officials use arrow weapons to anesthetize elephants so that mahout’s body can recover.
Supachai Wongaed is the son of former Mayor of Khok Charoen.
Meanwhile, in another similar incident, an elephant in the nakhon province of Sri Thammarat stabbed his handler until he died last month and stood on his body for hours. According to the outlet, the police suspect that the tusker is emphasized from the job.
“[This] is another strange reminder that the Asian elephant is and always remains a wild animal that can attack and kill when they are harassed or too emphasized by humans,” Duncan Mcnair, CEO of the charity body saved Asian elephants.
Elephants are known to be gentle, however, they can become aggressive when they feel harassed, vulnerable and threatened. Experts also believe that climate change can cause pressure, such as reduced food and water supply, which can cause an increase in conflict between elephants in the wild.
