In addition to climbing mountains, he made a series of extreme increases through some of the most remote areas in the world. He is also politically active over the years and, among others, transferred to the European parliament as a member of parliament.
Early life
Reinhold Messner was born in Tyrol Selatan in 1944. There he grew up with eight siblings. He had his first experience by climbing a mountain at the age of 5 when his father took him to the peak of three thousand meters. After graduating from school, Messner studied surveys and then teaching mathematics in high school for a year before devoting himself fully to climb the mountain.
Career highlights
In his career as a mountain climber, Reinhold Messner made many of the first climbing from the peak and difficult walls. For him it is not only important to reach the top. He also wants to do this on a route that was previously not conquered. When he climbed Nanga Parbat in 1970, for example, it descended to the side of the tutors instead of taking the same way as when he went up. He was the first person to cross the mountain.
Two personal highlights are undoubtedly the first climb of Mount Everest without oxygen in 1978 – the achievement that was previously considered impossible. In 1986 he was also the first person to climb all 14 eight thousand and the second to climb seven peaks.
