A proud in a native and closest city in Saskatchewan Canada’s province killed at least 10 people and 15 others injured on Sunday, said the police, when they launched the hunt for two suspects.
The police who responded to an emergency call found by 10 people were killed in a remote indigenous community at James Smith Cree Nation and the closest city of Weldon, Saskatchewan, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mounted Canada Rhonda Blackmore told a press conference.
He said at least 15 other people were injured and transported to the hospital.
“We are actively looking for two suspects,” he added.
The attackers suspected of escaping by vehicle and have been identified as Myles and Damien Sanderson, each aged 30 and 31 years, both with black hair and brown eyes.
James Smith Cree Nation, with a population of 2,500, stated the local emergency, while many residents of Saskatchewan Province were urged to take shelter on the spot.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the attack was “terrible and heartbreaking” in a tweet, expressed his condolences and urged residents to heed the instructions of the authorities.
Blackmore said the authorities believed “Some victims are targeted by the suspects and others are randomly attacked.”
“Talking with motives will be very difficult at this time,” he added.
Weldon resident Diane Shier told local media his neighbor, a man who lived with his grandson, was killed in the attack.
“I am very upset because I lost a good neighbor,” he told Persada.
‘Maximum’ police resources
Warnings of dangerous people have been issued in the morning at Saskatchewan, when the police responded to several stabbing in several locations in the native and Weldon communities.
The police received a call at 5:40 am (11:40 GMT) about the stabbing at James Smith Cree Nation, followed quickly with more calls reported further stabbing, with a total of 13 separate locations, Blackmore said.
Several examination posts have been established on the highway and roads throughout the region, because the “maximum” police resources were deployed for the search for suspects, he added.
After reporting the appearance of the two men in Regina, the provincial capital of more than 300 kilometers (185 miles) in the south, the warning and search was expanded to cover the neighboring provinces of Manitoba and Alberta – a large area of almost half European size.
In Regina, Police Chief Evan Bray said the authorities were careful with additional officers who were mobilized when sports fans went down to the city for the weekend of labor day that were sold out between Saskatchewan Roughrriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers from the Canadian soccer league.
Saskatchewan’s health authority told AFP in a statement that they had activated the emergency protocol to deal with “large number of critical patients.”
“We can confirm that many people are being supervised and treated in several locations and that calls for additional staff to help respond to this situation have occurred,” he added.
Three helicopters were sent from Saskatoon and Regina to the remote northern community to transport victims of stabbing and bring doctors to the scene.
