New Delhi: When Sri Lanka continued to deal with the economic crisis, the former Minister of Cabinet Namal Rajapaksa urged the protesters to maintain peace because violence was not a solution. His statement arose after the Sri Lanka court today banned former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and 16 allies from leaving the country for acts of violence against anti-government demonstrators.
Namal Rajapaksa, the son of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that there was a provocation from both parties. “There is no law and order at this time,” Namal Rajapaksa told NDTV.
The Sri Lanka Court has asked the police to investigate the mass attack on Monday against a peaceful protesters, which caused violence to kill nine and cause widespread destruction.
Cursing violence, Namal said, “This is not something that happened overnight. There was a provocation from both parties.”
The police now have to ensure security and stability in the country, he said.
After violence, the army was called to patrol the streets. The security forces have been given an order to shoot the visible looters.
The Governor of the Central Bank Sri Lanka said that failing to find a solution to the crisis in the next one to two weeks would cause electricity cutting up to 10 to 12 hours per day, as well as his own resignation.
Veteran political leader Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe today was appointed as the next prime minister by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
