Ukraine has completed a questionnaire that will form a starting point for the European Union to decide on membership for Kyiv, Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, said.
European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen handed over the questionnaire to Zelensky during his visit to Kyiv on April 8, promising a faster initial for the efforts of Ukraine to become a member of the European Union in the country.
“Today, I can say that the document has been resolved by the Ukraine,” Zhovkva told Ukrainian public announcers Sunday night.
The European Commission needs to issue recommendations on Ukrainian compliance with the required membership criteria, he added.
“We expect recommendations … to be positive, and then the ball will be on the side of the UE member country.”
Zhovkva added that Ukraine hoped to obtain the status of the state candidate for the EU accession in June during the European Council meeting schedule.
The European Council will meet 23-24 June, according to the board schedule on its website.
“Next, we need to start accession talks. And once we hold talks, we can talk about full membership of UMRaina in the EU,” said Zhovkva.
