Colombo: The oldest and first international airport Sri Lanka was launched on Sunday with its first international flight landing in 54 years, said flight official.
Flights from Maldives landed at Ratmalana International Airport in Colombo.
The 50-seat Malidivian flight will operate three flights a week to Colombo which was then expanded to five per week, flight officials said.
Ratmalana Airport was converted into a domestic airport after the bandarike international airport in Katunayake was assigned to the late 60s.
Bandaranaike Airport is the main international airport for flights to and from Sri Lanka’s capital.
Established in 1938, Ratmalana Airport is Sri Lanka’s oldest airport and at one point is the only international airport in the country.
